Our story
1984
In 1984, Shaun McCardell started a small screen-printing company called Design Ink in Sandy, Utah. Operating out of a storage unit and utilizing a single four-color hand press, the company printed approximately 50 shirts per day for small, local businesses. Shaun had a larger vision, however, and it wouldn’t be long before these humble beginnings began to give way to something much larger.
1995
As business grew, Lone Rock Clothing was officially created in 1995. A subsidiary of Design Ink, Lone Rock focused primarily on resort wear and sought to attract additional customers in the area - a mission it quickly accomplished. With Design Ink and Lone Rock operating in tandem, operations were moved to a 30K square foot facility in Sandy, Utah. Printing was done via three automatic presses (compared to the single original hand press) and over one-million impressions were being done annually.
2000
The turn of the century brought a period of rapid expansion for Lone Rock. In 2000, Lone Rock brought in its first outside sales representative. This allowed business to expand in Utah and across the southwestern United States. Particular emphasis was placed on growing business in Park City and Moab. During this period, Lone Rock began working with companies such as Solitude Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort, Slickrock Café and many others while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
2011
The next decade saw Lone Rock focus on solidifying business in Utah and the surrounding area. In doing so, the company built a strong reputation for performance and forward-thinking in the industry. Soon enough, this attracted several additional prominent sales representatives to join the Lone Rock team in 2011. These additions pushed Lone Rock to new heights, as business expanded to all corners of the country, bringing in diverse clientele and increased opportunity. At this point, Lone Rock was producing nearly four-million impressions each year, quadruple what was being produced in 1995.
2016
By 2016, business showed no signs of slowing down and was in fact increasing at a faster rate than ever before. The Sandy facility no longer provided the infrastructure necessary to keep pace, so Lone Rock decided to move operations into a state-of-the-art facility in West Jordan, Utah. This 150K square foot facility featured updated equipment and cutting edge technology needed to improve capacity and efficiency in day-to-day operations. All of this was required to keep up with demand that had almost doubled from 2011 levels.
2022
In present day, Lone Rock Clothing offers a stark contrast to its inauspicious beginnings in 1984. Producing over 10 million impressions annually, business has increased tenfold since 1995 and now reaches all corners of the United States. Operating out of one of the top facilities in the industry, Lone Rock is not merely content to maintain the status quo, but is constantly at the forefront of innovation and is always striving to operate more effectively and responsibly. With decades of experience and a commitment to excellence, Lone Rock aims to make the next 35 years every bit as memorable as the first.
